NY: Club Night: SS Columbia Project with Richard Anderson

Wednesday, February 1st

Marine Art & History Month continues with a Club Night on Wednesday, February 1st, featuring a presentation by Richard Anderson who will present on the restoration of America’s oldest surviving passenger steamer, the S.S. COLUMBIA, for active service on the Hudson River. The restoration is intended as a means of revitalizing the waterfront communities and will result in educational, cultural and heritage tourism benefits for the region.

The presentation will also discuss the history and impacts of steamboating on the Hudson.  The COLUMBIA was built in 1902 by the collaborative team of the great naval architect Frank Kirby and the painter-interior designer Louis O. Keil.  S.S. COLUMBIA is the last surviving steamer in the US with the logistical capacities demanded by Hudson River excursion service and represents our last opportunity to revive the experience of steamboating in the Hudson River Valley.

Chit cocktails will be served at 1800 followed by the presentation and dinner. Reservations are $75 per person, all inclusive. To reserve, please contact Rae Derke in Special Events at (212) 201-4336.
