BAJA EXPEDITION

 

April 6-13, 2013

 

 

 

The Cruising Committee is pleased to announce that an 8 day/7 night expedition to the Sea of Cortez aboard National Geographic SEA BIRD will take place April 6-13, 2013.
This unique expedition has no set itinerary and the pace will be unhurried and flexible, allowing us to take advantage of the best wildlife and exploring opportunities in the area.
In Baja California’s blue waters live some of the world’s most interesting creatures. We’ll experience the wonders of this ‘aquarium of the world’ while snorkeling among the playful sea lions and he colorful reef fish. We’ll watch for whales and dolphins from the deck of the ship. A fleet of Zodiacs and sea kayaks will allow for more personal and interactive exploration of the many spectacular coves and remote shorelines. Almost every anchorage offers excellent swimming, snorkeling and kayaking opportunities.
The Sea of Cortez harbors over fifty remote islands, many with plants and animals that have evolved into distinct ‘endemic’ species. We’ll take naturist guided walks on uninhabited desert islands, take hikes among elephant trees and cardon cactus, and observe myriads of sea birds including blue-footed and brown boobies and red-billed tropic birds.
The area is known for its miles of stunningly beautiful beaches and extraordinary sunsets. We’ll go ashore at Isla Espiritu Santo, perhaps the most beautiful island in the Sea of Cortez, for a beach barbeque under the desert sky.

RESERVATIONS 

Sign-up is by email on Tuesday, December 6th starting at 10:00 AM. An email including the member name, member number and guest should be sent to sailingoffice@nyyc.org. Early emails will not be accepted. Email received after 10:00 AM will receive a confirmation of receipt. Members who have signed up will then be contacted in order of receipt to select their Category of cabin. Cabin assignments will be made separately. An agreement contract, including a schedule of payments, will then be sent to each participant.
