ANTARCTICA EXPEDITION

Antarctica, a vast and remote wilderness, its breathtaking beauty beckons all to a once-in-a-lifetime trip to this surreal world at the bottom of our planet. Arranged by the Cruising Committee, this is a unique offer for NYYC members who have a passion for adventure and wildlife. The expedition is planned for February 8-21, 2008, during the austral summer.
A 14-day itinerary is planned with arrival in Buenos Aires followed by a flight to Ushuaia on the Beagle Channel. On Day 4 passengers board the Corinthian II for the 2-day voyage of the Drake Passage and across the Antarctic Convergence, leaving behind unforgettable vistas of the Darwin Cordillera glaciers and green-misted mountains. All guests are invited to attend lectures provided by naturalists and experienced guest speakers during the 600-mile roundtrip to and from the Antarctic Peninsula.

Days 6-10 Corinthian II explores the Antarctic Peninsula and some of the surrounding islands. The ship’s Zodiacs will carry passengers on excursions and provide a closer look at icebergs, blue glaciers, jagged, snow-capped mountains that form a breathtaking backdrop to this frozen paradise. Weather permitting Corinthian II will voyage to Petermann Island, Paradise Bay and Deception Island and voyages through the magnificent Lemaire, Neumeyer, Errera and other protected channels are also planned. Days 11 and 12 call for a sea watch for whales and seabirds, onboard lectures and the amenities of the ship for the 600-mile return trip to Ushuaia.
