COMPETITORS
Twenty female skippers will be invited. Only skippers invited by the OA will be eligible to enter this event. Invitations will be issued in the following order to: 
(a) The defending champion (Nicky Souter, Australia);
(b) Five skippers will be invited using the ISAF World Cup Standings on 01 June 2010. When an eligible skipper does not accept an invitation, then the next highest ranked skipper shall be invited until five skippers have accepted;
(c) Twelve skippers will be invited using the ISAF Women’s World Match Racing Ranking list on 09 June 2010. When an eligible skipper does not accept an invitation, then the next highest ranked skipper shall be invited until twelve skippers have accepted;
(d) Two Wild Cards as agreed by NYYC, US SAILING and ISAF; an additional wild card if the invitation under (a) is not accepted.

 

 

The ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championship was first held in 1999 in Genoa, Italy.  Women’s match racing has been awarded Olympic status and will be featured for the first time at the 2012 Games in the UK. 

 

20 top women's teams of four sailors each from around the world will be invited to participate in the 2010 Championship.  Invited skippers will include the defending champion, Nicky Souter from Australia, as well as top sailors from the ISAF Women's Match Racing rankings and the ISAF World Cup, and two wild card entries.

 

NYYC's fleet of 13 Sonars will be used for the competition.  Racing will take place on Narragansett Bay near Newport Harbor.
